November 3, 200421 yr From Carville's soon to be famous "drawing to an inside straight" comments on CNN regarding JF Kerry's chances as of midnight: We (Democrats) have to take a look at this. We have a Republican with suspect foreign policy, and a Democrat with alot of money who won all three debates hands down. And yet he's drawing to an inside straight right now. Democarats have alot of thinking to do.

November 3, 200421 yr MSNBC's Scarborough (who I don't care for mostly) made a good point. Democrats can't win in the south anymore unless they run a southerner. They're going to win the northern states anyway, so apparently they need to pick a redneck from Alabama every time. North vs South.

Thats what it will always boil down to from hear on out. Who knows if half our party listens. Some are just too idealistic.
November 3, 200421 yr I thought he would've made a fine candidate too. I believe someone made fun of his "list-making". If I remember correctly he dropped out of the running due to health concerns....
November 3, 200421 yr Author Graham has lost his marbles. Seriously. I can humor you for hours on inside stories of how senile he's become. I admire him for all he's done and the way he recognized it was time to go home, but he's a space cadet now.

The Republicans during the Reagan years convinced southerners that cultural conservative issues are more important than economic ones.

Simple, and in two issues...... 1) Religion/morality 2) Gun control
November 3, 200421 yr sigh... can i just blame everything on the evangelicals? 607201[/snapback] Jesus hates liberals but loves the death penalty, capitalism, and guns. :plain

November 3, 200421 yr Blame the liberals in New Hampshire, Iowa and DNC headquarters. Gephardt, Graham, many others as Kerry or Edwards' VP would have won it for the Dems. But they'd rather let those kooks in Cedar Rapids and Manchester knock out half the field before voters in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania have their say.

But they'd rather let those kooks in Cedar Rapids and Manchester knock out half the field before voters in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania have their say. Graham, maybe, but Gephardt - no way. He's been up for the presidency 4 times now, and is a 4-time loser. He wouldn't have brought anything to the table for Kerry or Edwards. I place this squarely on Kerry. The "liberals" in Iowa and the liberals in New Hampshire chose a practical, electable candidate when they threw Howard Dean under the bus for John Kerry, but he took the torch and fell on it.

November 3, 200421 yr Yep. Thats what it will always boil down to from hear on out. Who knows if half our party listens. Some are just too idealistic. What's the point of even having a second party if they're just going to pander to the same electorate? The whole reason Gore lost was that he picked a conservative veep like Lieberman and forced liberals to vote for Nader to keep the Democrats from becoming "The Republicans: Part Deux". People in the blue states don't want to hear that "God and guns" sh*t. I sure as hell don't. If both the Democrats and the Republicans are going to start on that, then I might as well vote Libertarian or just stop voting. It wasn't like Kerry was even running on an ultra-liberal platform, either. Edwards was a pretty conservative Democrat in the mold of a Clinton or a Gore. Neither of them supported gay marriage, and they had no message on gun control. The only "liberal" message that Kerry had was that he was going to raise taxes on people making over $200k in this country to help get the country's deficit spending under control. Ooooooh. How radical! If the country's policies from here on out are going to be determined by "good, Christian" rednecks, it's time for me to seriously consider Canada, England, France, or Spain as a future residence. Moderation seems to be a relic of the past in this country, and the right wing zealots' victory will be complete when Bush appoints 2 Scalia-like Supreme Court justices in the next 4 years.
