I'm just curious as to what everyones thoughts on this are.

I think people want answers as to why things are evil.

 

I don't think that rock music influences young people- if that were the case, I'd be some crazed disco maniac from all the Hustle I did as a teenager.

 

Why things are evil has no easy answer, so it's easier to blame music, tv, the internet, comic books, Harry Potter, etc..... - anyone but the parents and their responsibility.

It does have an effect on the youth.How many times you hear how a teen suicide or is going through depression?A bet a big percentage of them listen to that type of rock music.

Music defintely influences some teenagers. In the end other forces act upon them to cause behaviors that are fuled by this music. Its not just rock but others as well.

I think the problem with the ARTICLE is that they didn't specify the type of ROCK music.

 

Not all ROCK music is bad.

I agree, but I don't.

 

I'll use myself as an example. I love classic rock, and though I'm not too fond of heavy stuff Metallica is my favorite band after The Police. I'm not a satanist, in fact I believe I have a pretty developed conscience and have a pretty solid moral base. I love their music, went to a concert of theres this past weekend actually, but it's just that, music. It's good to get pumped up for games, the writing is really lyrical, but there is no devil worshipping going on. I don't see either "Hotel California" or "Stairway to Heaven" as devil music, they are just songs. Someone just has a little too much time on their hands.

 

Does music affect people? It most certainly does. Music will often dictate moods. You tend to get happy when you are cruising along and you hear one of your favorite songs on the radio. When you are angry, confused, depressed, hurt, heartbroken, happy, energetic, pumped, joyful, sorry, there is a song out there for you that you know and love. There are people out there that let the music they listen to change the things they do in their lives, but these people aren't the majority. Most people take it for what it is, just music. It's spicing not substance.

 

On the note of the suicides, the song "Fade to Black" comes to mind. It is, on one level, a song about suicide (it's also a song about Metallica getting their speakers stolen, including a really rare one). Many complain that people have committed suicide because of this song. However, for every letter Metallica got blasting them about their song causing a loved one to committ suicide, they got three telling them about how "Fade to Black" convinced people that were contemplating suicide out of it. It goes both ways, as everything in life does.
