The Royals on Monday acquired young right-hander Dennis Tankersley and outfielder Terrence Long from the San Diego Padres in exchange for left-hander Darrell May and right-hander Ryan Bukvich. Long, a left-handed hitter, has a .268 career average with 63 home runs and 321 RBIs over five seasons. Tankersley, 25, is a hard-throwing starter with promise.
