November 22, 200421 yr http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor.../britain_france OXFORD, England - French President Jacques Chirac said Friday that the United Nations (news - web sites) Security Council does not represent today's world and should be expanded to include Germany, Japan and developing nations such as Brazil and India as permanent members. Speaking to about 200 students and faculty at Oxford University, Chirac laid out his vision of a "multipolar" world, balanced among various blocs and alliances rather than dominated by the United States. Chirac, at the end of a two-day visit to Britain designed in part to heal the two countries' rift over Iraq (news - web sites), said his world view was shared by Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites). Looks as if our long-standing hegemony over the world is soon to end.
November 22, 200421 yr Surprised Chirac would push for that since it dilutes the greater power his nation has.
November 22, 200421 yr An expanded security council renders the council and the UN compltely uselss, b/c resolutions will never pass. You want revolution, how about majority rules and no veto power
November 22, 200421 yr Sure the Security Council should include Germany, Japan, and India, but that won't lead to a multipolar world. Its not whose on the security coucil, but who can destroy the world the most times.
November 23, 200421 yr Here's an idea: let's allow Israel to have the opportunity to serve on the Security Council. Currently, it is the ONLY country not eligible to ever serve.
