November 26, 200421 yr Al Leiter - S - Mets While the door is supposed to be open for the Yankees to sign Al Leiter, GM Brian Cashman said yesterday that he believes the lefty would prefer to stay with the Mets. "I know from our one conversation, at least in the smoke signals he sent out, that he feels a very strong loyalty to the Met fan base and that's where he hoped to remain," Cashman said. "That was something that he would explore every way to stay there." Nov. 25 - 2:10 pm et Source: New York Daily News
November 26, 200421 yr Say no to Leiter in 05! He is a Grade A Free Agent so we will have to give up our first round pick. Also take it in to fact that he only lasts about 5 innings a game and is getting up their in age. With this in mind I have no idea why we would pay this guy 7 million. :mad :
November 26, 200421 yr No need to worry about losing draft picks. If the Marlins sign him, I doubt they will before December 7th. It's not certain that the Mets will offer him arbitration fearing he may come away with the full $7 (or 8 or 10 million) price tag. If not we'd still be picking up one set from losing both Pavano and Benitez.
