December 9, 200421 yr Pavano just did a brief phone interview with Mike and the Mad Dog, and he seemed legitimately confused. He did a good job tip-toeing around the questions they asked (mainly, where is he in his decision process) and really seemed to convey to them that he had two options: To "blend" in with the big-guys (Yankees, Red Sox) or to be an anchor on a younger staff. I found it kind of interesting that he didn't sound overly enamored with the two big guys when he has a chance to campaign on the north east's biggest sports talk show. Seriously, I don't think he's lying when he says he has no clue what the hell he wants to do...and from an odd standpoint, I think that helps our chances if we make an offer in the $8 mil a season range...whether or not that's in our best interests is another story.
December 9, 200421 yr Pavano was interviewed on the Mike and the Mad Dog show on WFAN here in NY and it lasted about 5-7 minutes. He really made no indications about anymore, and they grilled him about Boston/Yanks and he definetly did not lean anymore. The only time he mentioned the Marlins was when they asked him teams beside those(if any) he would be interested in and he mentioned the Marlins offering him arbitraton.
December 9, 200421 yr Hopefully he won't. Next offseason is lining up to be pretty good right now, as long as we don't have any multi-year contracts tying us down. Niner, Enc, and several other contract off the books, with Hermida and others possibly ready, we could make a big splash in the FA market. The 8 million to Leiter for one year instead of 8 mil a year to Pavano for extended time, coupled with the stadium construction hopefully starting sometime this season, gives ALOT of leeway to us next winter. Don't be shocked to see quite a rumors heading in our direction with big free agents if Pavano does not return. And yes, this is even with Beckett, Burnett, and Pierre all resigning to multiyear deals.
December 10, 200421 yr Yes I agree with you juanky but i still want to resign pavano because that guy is a stud and what other pitcher can we get next year that has the same talent as pavano other than hudson.
