Bonneville lands the Nationals (Z104)

Featured Replies

910 in Richmond took the Braves and dumped the O's. They thought the Nats would be a losing cause. The Nats can make money off this deal, I have no doubt. The Marlins and FSN do this with the PAX telecasts. The rays are now doing this with their PAX telecasts and their radio network. The Phils are also doing this on radio with WPHT and WIP.

WWRC has tower troubles though. FCC has nothing done since the 60's.

BTW, here is Bonneville's description of WFED-AM's signal

Listeners are able to hear this new station clearly in Washington, D.C. and much of Montgomery, Arlington, and Fairfax counties from 6am to local sunset; it operates on lower power after sunset

Smells like the Braves on WGST/96 Rock and Royals on WHB/Planet 97

Z104 is a Hot AC format that is pretty popular with younger professionals. For those in South Florida it is similar to 97.3 The Coast or Mix 105.1 out of Orlando.

Funny thing is WFED may get some interference from Cuba on 1050. They also have a directional 1050 in New York.

next time someone decides to post four times in a row....

save a cyber-tree:

USE IT.

WTOP will play highlights of the previous day's game(s) the morning after on their morning newscasts. WTOP's sports show will also provide coverage from the ballpark on gamedays. I hope the Nats and Bonneville have an agreement in place to slide the Nats to WTOP or WGMS if they prove to get the ratings and ad revenue. MLB is going to alienate fans unless they get games on the radio.

TV is not enough in baseball, radio must also be complete.

Still weird to me I just don't see z104 doing games...have any idea who announcers might be

The process began today. Former Expos announcer Elliot Price is possible if his visa is handled.

Nationals Radio Network Being Formed - 2/18 - DCRTV hears that several stations have contacted Bonneville about carrying Nationals baseball games. It looks like there will be a regional Nationals radio network, with affiliates in places like Hagerstown, Fredericksburg, the Shenandoah Valley, and the Eastern Shore. As DCRTV reported yesterday, the Nationals will air in the DC area via Bonneville's Z104 and WFED.....

Not that i know of, but hey, what do i know? I don't pay attention to the Nationals. :confused Peace in, I'm out. :cool Oh man! I still have my math homework to do! :banghead

Any word on the television broadcasts yet?

According to what Ricky told me and what I have read on DCRTV,

Comcast SportsNet will be the cable home to the Nats just like it is for the O's. FSN South could carry games in North Carolina like it does for the O's.

UPN 20 and WB 50 are in a race to air the over-the-air broadcasts. NBC 4, FOX 5, ABC 7, and W*USA 9 are in a race (with NBC 4 trailing the 3 frontrunners) to become the promotional TV partner. PAX 66 will likely air the O's.

FOX 5 and UPN 20 are owned by FOX. NBC 4 runs PAX 66. ABC 7 owns their cable NewsChannel 8 which airs Wizards, Capitals, and O's games. W*USA 9 is the only DC station with a 7 pm newscast that can also serve as a good pregame show.

The news is on CBS at 7? I thought it was national news.

On a side note George Michael>Tim Brant and Brett Haber

NBC 4 has NBC Nightly News at 7 pm.

W*USA 9 airs the CBS Evening News at 6:30 pm and airs USA Tonight at 7 pm.

Well I'll be damned

Probably should have known that...oh well

Here in Baltimore, there is far less excitement over the Nationals. Currently the majority of the games are televised on CSN while some are on WJZ. Will CSN here in Baltimore be forced to split between Nationals and Orioles, or will such a thing be isolated to the Washington region?

Yet to be determined. BTW, the O's still have not confirmed they are returning to WJZ or WB 54.
