March 10, 200521 yr So, I am telling my friend that if you're a runner on second (no one at first) with less than two outs and the ball is hit to the shortstop, you go to third if the ball is hit to your left side (up the middle) and you hesitate or even go back to second base if it is hit to your right (either to the shortstop or third basemen). He says it's the opposite!! No baseball IQ! Can anyone provide a website that tells you what you should do in this situation? I would really appreciate it.
March 10, 200521 yr Author Exactly. He says it's the opposite. I am trying to find a website that says it so I can prove him wrong. It's idiotic to say if the ball is hit to your left you go back and if it's hit to your right you go to third.

March 10, 200521 yr Look, it's common sense. If the ball is hit in front of you then either the 3rd baseman has a play and you run into the out, or the short stop has an easy throw to 3rd since his momentum is carrying him that way. If the ball is behind you then the SS has a very difficult throw as he would either have to stop and pivot, or spin around to make a play. The SS won't even try the throw because if he throws it away it's a run scored.
March 11, 200521 yr My high school coach taught us to hestitate off second in an attempt to confuse the shortstop or thirdbaseman. Maybe that's because he thought all us kids we were all idiots, but it did work every once awhile. Only once do I remember the baserunner being thrown out.
