Suraya Sobah Rang, Afghanistan's deputy women's affairs minister, says forced marriages and a continued lack of access to education is contributing to the growing despair among Herat's women. Are their lives marginally better? I mean, there must be some dirty s*** going down for these women to go so far as to burn themselves alive.
March 16, 200521 yr Things are better, now the problem is that they arent yet good enough. When a person has high expectations about somehting like tolernace or freedom and they are not completely met, it leads to a very depressing situation. Americans (including myself) often think that things need to happen quickly, instant gratificaiton. Afghanistan is obviously better now than under the taliban but there are many things thta still need to be worked on, and truthfully a lot of these things have to do with religious tradition, and are very difficult to change. Women in the herat province are committing suicide more often, but less women are being executed for letting their hair show.
