HUTCHINSON'S DONE

Right-hander Trevor Hutchinson will miss the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff earlier this week.

Rated the organization's 10th-best prospect according to Baseball America, Hutchinson experienced shoulder tightness during his Arizona Fall League stint and was shut down after two appearances.

He spent the rest of the offseason rehabbing and reported to spring training healthy.

"We came to find out the tear actually happened a long time ago according to what the doctors said," farm director Brian Chattin said. "It tells you a little bit about his makeup and pain threshold."

At Double-A Carolina, where he was 10-7 with a 4.23 ERA last season, Hutchinson missed six weeks due to elbow pain that ultimately was diagnosed as arm fatigue.

Due for a six-month rehab, Hutchinson likely won't pitch competitively again until next spring.
