Alleged innuendo irks Baker

By Paul Sullivan

Tribune staff reporter

April 26, 2005

Dusty Baker was shocked and disturbed to find his name in a gossip item in Monday's New York Post regarding an alleged comment he made to a female student April 14 at Yale University.

The item alleged Baker gave a young woman his cell-phone number and told her to "remind me you're the cute one" when calling for help finding a job.

Baker said he spoke to six or seven students.

"I was just trying to help young people get a job in baseball," Baker said. "I was going to make some calls and contacts."

Baker said no "sexual innuendo" was involved and didn't remember calling the woman "cute." He said one of the young men called him Monday.

"Is that sexual innuendo too?" Baker asked.

Now that I think of it, with the way the 9th inning has been for the Cubs, he probably just wants to try her as the closer.
