Jones will Close

Featured Replies

Here's the answer to the million dollar question:

Jones the closer: Although Guillermo Mota returned from the disabled list late Thursday, Todd Jones will continue in the closer's role for now, manager Jack McKeon said.

McKeon said Mota likely will be used in middle or set-up roles for the next few days but could resume his closer's duties eventually.

Jones, who was signed as a set-up man, said he has spoken to Mota and both have agreed they will not let the situation erupt into a controversy over who should be the closer.

"It's a good situation for the team to have, but one of us is going to not be happy," Jones said. "We'll stick together. Me and Mo are good friends. I'm ready to do whatever is best. I've won Rolaids (Relief Man of the Year, with Detroit in 2000) and been an All-Star closer (2000). I want a ring more than I want to do that, no doubt about it."

Todd Jones is a class act. And Mota's best friend because he gives him room to get back up to his potential.

Come July, if Mota reaches his potential, he will owe Jones a Rolex.
