June 21, 200521 yr Baseball can be a religious experience for many fans. But Chicago White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has taken the idea to a new level. Reinsdorf has become an ordained clergyman in the Universal Life Church of Modesto, Calif., according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He performed his first marriage ceremony Saturday for a couple who were wed on the Fan Deck at U.S. Cellular Field. "I had a lawyer check it out first, and it's all legal,'' said Reinsdorf, himself a lawyer who acquired his new sideline occupation on the Internet. But, according to the Sun-Times, there may only be one more marriage ceremony in Reinsdorf's future ? for a couple who purchased the team's "special ballpark experience" package to benefit Chicago White Sox Charities. And two ceremonies should be enough to quell the curiosity inside Reinsdorf, who became interested in clergy work while attending a friend's wedding. "Anyone can do it," Reinsdorf told the Sun-Times. Becoming a card-carrying member of the ULC might have been enough to satisfy a whim. But Reinsdorf mentioned his new status to White Sox officials, who were discussing potential ideas that could benefit the team's charity. Weddings had already been happening at the ballpark. So why not have chairman perform one? Reinsdorf admitted he was nervous when the time came for his debut Saturday. The bridal party and guests, however were delighted with his performance ? right down to his quip to the groom that he had "hit a home run." His best advice? "Never throw her a curve." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3704436
