July 24, 200521 yr Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Wedding Crashers continued to dominate at the box office in it's second week taking the two top spots. What was most impressive was that Wedding Crashers had very little drop off from last week, almost unheard of in today's movie industry. The Fantastic Four came in with an impressive 12 mil in it's third week. The Island came in 4th with a little above 12 mil. This is a huge problem for it's studio as they invested over 120 million in it's production and with the poor reviews it's recieved they needed a huge opening weekend to make up for the likely drop off in the coming weeks with the bad reviews. The Island will probably not make half of it's production costs. The Bad News Bears came in at 5th with 11.5 mil. While not lighting it up at the box office. The movie was relatively cheap to make and will probably turn a profit. The Devils Rejects and Hustle and Flow all had very impressive showings. While not making huge money both movies were very cheap to make and will probably turn a profit. 1 1 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory WB $28,300,000 -49.6% 3,790 +20 $7,467 $114,106,000 $150 2 2 2 Wedding Crashers NL $26,200,000 -22.7% 2,925 - $8,957 $80,901,000 $40 2 3 3 Fantastic Four Fox $12,275,000 -46.1% 3,449 -170 $3,559 $122,560,000 $100 3 4 N The Island DW $12,100,000 - 3,122 - $3,875 $12,100,000 $120 1 5 N Bad News Bears Par. $11,500,000 - 3,183 - $3,612 $11,500,000 $35 1 6 4 War of the Worlds Par. $8,825,000 -42.1% 3,265 -459 $2,702 $208,321,000 $132 4 7 N Hustle and Flow ParC $8,100,000 - 1,013 - $7,996 $8,100,000 $2.80 1 8 N The Devil's Rejects Lions $7,000,000 - 1,757 - $3,984 $7,000,000 - 1 9 5 Batman Begins WB $4,730,000 -21.6% 2,275 -535 $2,079 $191,108,000 $150 6 10 12 March of the Penguins WIP $4,300,000 +183.8% 695 +563 $6,187 $9,224,000 - 5
July 24, 200521 yr It's directly the fault of the movie studio. They generated no buzz on this movie, no one was talking about it. Unlike War of the Worlds, Fantastic 4, and Charlie and the Choc. Factory, which were shoved in your face wherever you looked, the Island got a couple TV commercials and that's it. In fact, I never saw the trailer for it in the theaters. I only heard about it because I found it while searching movie trailers on Apple.com. Also, to release it this late into the summer, up against 2 other wide-release movies, and with 2 blockbusters released the week before, they were digging their own grave. Shouldv'e been marketed better and delayed.
July 24, 200521 yr I didnt think the advertising or hype for this movie was good... 872846[/snapback] id say so considering i never even heard of that movie outside of a couple of posts in this forum.
July 24, 200521 yr Maybe MIchael Bay will stop making movies, because Pearl Harbor sucked a little more than I miss you.
July 25, 200521 yr I think the only advertising they should have used is Mrs Johansson movie looks terrible either way you put it
