Marlins outfielder Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-4 with a double, his 24th home run, two runs, and two RBI against the Cardinals on Thursday.

We've lobbied for Cabrera to receive consideration for NL MVP this season and if Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee continues to quiet down, while Cabrera keeps his solid hitting up, we just may get it.

I am not sure if that is a jinx or not. But, I like the sound of it at least :)

Probably a three-person race. Cabby's not leading in any major stat category. The other two are much better on defense than Cabrera, so that could count against him a little bit too.

Derrek Lee:

.358 BA, .438 OBP, 1.129 OPS

32 HR, 83 RBI, 83 R

55 BB, 71 K, .77 BB/K

Cubs: 54-54, 14 GB in NL Central, 5 GB in Wild Card

Miguel Cabrera:

.355 BA, .409 OBP, 1.025 OPS

24 HR, 79 RBI, 77 R

39 BB, 82 K, .48 BB/K

Marlins: 55-51, 6.5 GB in NL East, 3 GB in Wild Card

Albert Pujols:

.341 BA, .430 OBP, 1.054 OPS

29 HR, 86 RBI, 91 R

57 BB, 43 K, 1.33 BB/K

Cardinals: 68-40, First Place, 9 games up

If Cabrera can carry us into the playoffs by coming back and winning the division I'd give him the MVP. Remember Tejada in 2003?

Indeed, whichever one of the three aforementioned players comes up big in the playoffs is who will get it.

It dosent matter how they peform in the playoffs, because the voting is done before the playoffs start. What counts is for a player to carry his team to October.
