Criminalization of athletes who smoke pot

Featured Replies

Seriously. Before this turns into the "Ricky sux" thread or "Moss is a dick" isn't it weird how these guys are portrayed now?

Just for smoking a little weed.

First off, smoking a joint doesn't make you anymore of a criminal than anyone who drinks a beer, let's clear that up. Yes, it's illegal, but so what. Weed grows naturally upon this earth and making it illegal is like saying God made a mistake.

However, that being said, these guys are now treated like walking stereotypes of crazed "reefer madness" just because they admit it. And it doesn't help that the media crucifies these guys. The Ricky Williams thing was blown even more out of proportion because he wanted to smoke weed while this Moss thing is going to get bigger and bigger.

Look, these guys aren't public servants out to save lives and drinking on the job here. They're football players. And anyone who drinks alchohol and condemns these doods JUST on the basis that they smoke pot is REALLY ignorant.

I just don't like the fact that these guys are treated as walking free criminals by the media who snubs their nose at these guys for deciding to do something that makes them feel good during their free time. "How DARE you do something that makes you feel better than you would if you were not to take it!" And yet, there's beer commercials all over those selfsame airwaves.

"This just in, Jeremy Shockey abuses drugs. Last night he was seen at a local club "Flingers" in New York City where he drank copious amounts of alchohol. When asked about his drug addiction he said, "Heineken good. *Braaaaaaap!* Me like to get sloshed!" No word yet on what the Giants are going to do to punish Shockey for having a good time..."

I do find it funny how people like Jamal Lewis who actually went to prison, was touted by ESPN as a changed man because he was incarcerated and 'learned a lesson' while in prison. He got off easily by the media while Ricky was man-handeled.

I do think that quitting on your team and teammates because of pot is immature, stupid, and bad, I think he should be slammed for that...not the weed smoking.

I used to smoke pot alot in high school, and I have maybe 5-10 times in college and I think it is kindof lame now, every once in a while like Moss said (he is a helluva lot more honest then most/all atheletes) doesnt prohibit him from doing the job that made him a millionaire.

No one has ever died from smoking pot...

Cocaine and heroin are natural too.

They still have to be messed with. You can't just take a coke plant, snort it and get high. With weed you can, with mushrooms you can. Same with heroin. Non-synthesized natural drugs, Fritzie, my little epistemic buddy.

I'm all for this stuff anyways. I don't abuse any drug I use. I try to shy away from alchohol because it makes me feel like poo, but overusing a stimulant makes one less down for the effect. Plus, a lot of the time I like to be with people.

But, there's occasions when, for me personally, I feel it's okay to cut loose.

The criminalization of pot is one of the most illogical things ever. As is the demonization of athletes who do it. A lot of powerful execs and lawyers do serious drugs.
