The Indianapolis Colts might be close to signing former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon.

 

"Unfortunately I can't comment on that at this time," Simon said when reached by The Star late Wednesday night.

 

ESPN.com reported Wednesday night that Simon and the Colts had agreed in principle on a deal. ESPN.com cited as its sources two unnamed Colts players who said they were told by a member of the coaching staff that the acquisition of Simon was imminent.

 

Simon recently became an unrestricted free agent when the Eagles withdrew a one-year, $5.1 million contract offer. He had been designated their franchise player.

 

In five seasons, Simon has 270 tackles and 32 sacks. He was the sixth pick in the 2000 draft out of Florida State.

Um, Douglas was coming off three straight pro bowl seasons before the Eagles let him walk.

Trotter was spectacular down the stretch for the Eagles last year and I dont believe a 28 year old is really regressing...

I can't say that the Eagles are stupid. Simon was gonna be the Eagles property all season if he wasn't released. He always comes into camp out of shape, nobody but the Colts know what kind of shape he's in. Plus, the depth at DT is amazing. Darwin Walker, Sam Rayburn, Hollis Thomas, Paul Grasmanis, and Mike Patterson.
