August 15, 200322 yr Some things boggle the mind: 1) Why do they dust off the plate after a homerun? 2) On a check swing why can the defense request a check on the swing from another ump but not the batter? 3) When a ball hits the dirt in front of the catcher, for instance on a pitch in the dirt -- the ball is ALWAYS changed. Yet, if a ball is hit to the shortstop for instance on a hop -- after the throw over to first the ball is given back to the pitcher and he uses it again. It hit the dirt anyway, right? Why not change it? 4) Why are pitchers allowed to wipe their foreheads and arms which are sweaty and then rub the ball but NOT allowed to lick their fingers and then rub the ball? There's more moisture the other way. That's it for now, feel free to add your own.

There's more moisture the other way. 1) Because Home Plate gets dirty so almost after every Play they Dust it off so the pitcher can get a better View of it. 2) This one is tuff i dont know. 3)Because it has Scuff Marks and gives the pitcher better Grip. Also The pitcher will request for another one anyways. 4)Becuase they need to feel Comfortable while they pitch. Also the Ump will know when he is using his sweat as a Spitball. These were pretty tough!
