September 24, 200521 yr Astros to return home as Rita spares most of Houston Associated Press CHICAGO -- The Houston Astros are going home, after all. The Astros will be able to finish the regular season at Minute Maid Park as scheduled, general manager Tim Purpura said Saturday. Houston was largely spared by Hurricane Rita, and Purpura said the ballpark wasn't damaged at all in the storm. "It really came through well," Purpura said before the Astros played the Chicago Cubs. "We never even lost power and all of our systems are working. So we really came through better than we could have expected." The Astros are in Chicago for the weekend and then travel to St. Louis for games on Tuesday and Wednesday. They are scheduled to return home Wednesday night, then host the Cubs for a four-game series to end the regular season. But when it looked as if Houston might be in Rita's path, the Astros began looking for alternatives. "There are no issues at all that we're aware of," Purpura said. "Our hope is to get the roof open by tomorrow to hopefully get some sun on the field -- if there's any sun to be had." They dodged a bullet that could have disrupted the end of their season, much like the 2004 Marlins. I'm sure it's going to be a thrilling end of the season in Houston.
September 25, 200521 yr Author They're playing like a team who wants to make the playoffs again. But so are the Phillies. This could come down to the final series. The Astros have 3 more games on the road and they finish with the last 4 at home.
