Minorleague report

Last year before the Floyd deal went down, Beinfest was trying hard to get this kid along with Don Levinski as players to named. His name? LHP Mike Hinckley I wish today he was included in that deal instead of Justin Wayne..Oh well here's some notes from BA on the kid :confused

Mike Hinckley has a 17-7, 2.25 record over the last two years while moving steadily up the Expos organizational ladder. The 20-year-old lefty cracked the Top 100 Prospects list and ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the system after going 6-2 with a New York-Penn League-best 1.37 ERA last season, and Hinckley has only improved his status with a strong full-season debut.

A projectable 6-foot-3 and 170 pounds with silky smooth mechanics and arm action, Hinckley's velocity has increased each year since 2001, when the Expos drafted him in the third round out of Moore (Okla.) High. He reaches 94 mph frequently and the development of his curveball has been especially pleasing to Montreal's player-development staff.

Hinckley started the season in low Class A Savannah, where he went 9-5, 3.64 with 11 strikeouts in 124 innings before a promotion took him to high Class A Brevard County.

Hinckley hasn't allowed a run in his first two starts, covering 12 innings, while posting a perfect 2-0, 0.00 mark. He hasn't issued a walk, either, while surrendering just four hits and punching out 12

FUTURE 1B???? OR ALBERT PUJOLS???

Marlins power-hitting prospect Josh Willingham returned from his latest trip to the disabled list last night and went 1-for-3 with a walk while playing first base for Double-A Carolina. Knee problems will prevent him from catching again until the Arizona Fall League

YOUNG ARM DOWN AGAIN

The Marlins have decided to shut down low Class A righthander Yorman Bazardo for the rest of the season. It marks the second time Bazardo has been sidelined with a sore arm, though the root of the injury has yet to be identified. Bazardo, who has been clocked up to 96 mph, is 7-8, 3.58 with 64 strikeouts in 113 innings. After spending all of last season in the bullpen at short-season Jamestown, his workload this year for Greensboro has nearly quadrupled.

CROSSING THE BRIDGES TO SUCCESS

CAROLINA (SOU) RHP DONNIE BRIDGES threw seven scoreless innings and produced all the offense his club would need as the Mudcats blanked the Huntsville Stars, 2-0. Bridges improved his record to 10-1, allowing just two singles, fanning six and walking four to up his home record to 6-0 with a 1.52 ERA. The 24-year-old, who ranks fourth in the Southern League with 2.59 ERA overall, has won his last eight decisions while posting a 1.53 mark in those appearances. A .377 (20-for-53) hitter this year with a .436 (17-for-39) average when pitching, Bridges slapped a single up the middle to drive in the only two runs of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning. Selected in the first-round of the 1997 draft by the Montreal Expos, the 6-4 righthander was traded to the Florida Marlins organization midway through the 2002 campaign. After struggling to post an 0-4 record and a 13.21 ERA in six appearances with Portland of the Eastern League after the trade, Bridges has dominated batters in the Southern League this year, holding opponents to a .183 (80-for-437) average and allowing two earned runs or less in 13 of his 18 starts.

**Impressive Donnie keep it up..could a Sept call-up be in the cards? I doubt it but an invitation to spring training is very likely

here's a scout point of view on Bridges peformance as a pitcher and a hitter,

RHP Donnie Bridges is the Babe Ruth of the Southern League. Bridges the pitcher upped his record for the season to 10-1 after firing 7 shutout innings of 2-hit ball while Bridges the hitter drove in the only 2 runs of the game in Double-A Carolina's 2-0 victory over Huntsville. Bridges the pitcher is 4th in the SL in ERA (2.59) and he's permitted just 80 hits in 128.2 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .183 off of him. Ludicrous. Bridges the hitter would be leading the SL in batting (.377) if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. That's not a phony .377, either. He's 20-for-53. If there were a Comeback Prospect of the Year Award, Bridges would have to be the frontrunner. The 24-year-old right-hander really looks to be back on track. 1B Josh Willingham returned to the Carolina line-up last night, going 1-for-3. Willingham had been out with soreness in his knee. The Marlins should take it easy on Willingham and not play him behind the dish from here to the end of the season. Let him get his Double-A hacks in.

"BABE RUTH"??? "He's 20-for-53" WOW!!!

STOKES HEATIN UP?

1B Jason Stokes went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, a run scored, and 3 RBIs while RHP Lincoln Holdzkom pitched a perfect 9th inning to clutch his 2nd save and help direct High-A Jupiter to a 4-2 home triumph over St. Lucie. Stokes remains atop the FSL in RBIs with 86 and he's 4th in extra-base hits (48). Holdzkom has a 1.46 ERA in 10 contests with Jupiter and he's punched out 15 batters in 12.1 innings while giving up 6 hits. Both Stokes and Holdzkom are top prospects for the Fish.

OLSEN COOLED DOWN?

LHP Scott Olsen had a bucket of ice water tossed on him as he would allow 4 runs -- 3 earned -- and 7 hits in 5 innings to take the loss for Greensboro. Olsen has been as hot as any prospect in the land.
