November 28, 200520 yr OTTAWA ? (AP) ? Ernie Whitt was selected Monday to manage Canada's team at the inaugural World Baseball Classic in March. The 53-year-old Whitt is the Toronto Blue Jays' bench coach and managed Canada to a second-place finish in a regional Olympic qualifier this month to advance to the Americas Olympic qualifier next year in Cuba. He has managed Canada since 1999, when it won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games, and guided Canada to a fourth-place finish in last year's Athens Olympics. He played in the major leagues for 15 years for Boston, Toronto, Atlanta and Baltimore. Canada is in a first-round group with the United States, Mexico and South Africa.
