December 3, 200520 yr Well it's bulls***. It's not like the person who owns the team has done anything to help them stay. It seems like he's been pushing them out since he got here, demanding a stadium from the first moment. Do you know how much money was lost JUST BECAUSE of the stadium insistance over the last few years? I bet it's high. To where? Loria knew the Expos were off to DC in due time when he was given the sweet deal to sell the team. There really aren't many better markets out there than S. Florida.
December 3, 200520 yr Codina, for example, knows everyone in So. Florida. He'd get the deal done. Excuse me, but has not the way Codina has been able to find himself in the role he now enjoys sour you on how he would act as owner once he has taken hold of the team? Instead of approaching Loria to make an acceptable offer, he buddied up with local politicians and got himself involved in a plan to force the sale of the team - to him, the keyholder's candidate. Thus weakening Loria's ability to seek full value of the team and forcing him to seek other markets? Does that behavior suggest to you that he will invest in a championship calibar club? Does that suggest to you that he will care about the fans and employees? Diaz, Arriola and Codina should be brought up on charges of tampering and bribery. Who was bribed? That's news to me.
December 3, 200520 yr I suspect Arriola and Diaz were, to suggest that there's only one man they'd agree to close the funding gap with.
December 3, 200520 yr I suspect Arriola and Diaz were, to suggest that there's only one man they'd agree to close the funding gap with. I don't think they've been told that specifically. They've said, "sell the team to a local owner." I doubt they were "bribed." More like Codina is buddies with Diaz and has probably contributed significantly to his campaigns in the past and will probably keep doing it. I know how Miami works, whether in business, law, or politics. It's all about who you know and who knows you. Unfortunately for Loria, he doesn't know anyone and no one knows him. Same thing for Samson. And, what's worse, those that do know Samson hate him. How could they get anything done? My vote would have been to let professionals handle the job - and stay out of their way. Hire top guns to do it. Have they done it? To some extent. Have they let them do their job? Not really.
