December 7, 200520 yr Since the Sox are saying that Beckett's arm is so bad, does that void the trade? Or do we have to give them more or is it a done deal, too bad, we sold you a lemon?
December 7, 200520 yr Who said that Beckett's arm is bad? He had a physical before the trade and I thought they concluded it was fine. Is there something they found out after that?
December 7, 200520 yr Author I read that the Sox did an MRI, I guess after the trade and said his arm was so bad that they doubt he will be able to get 20 starts.
December 7, 200520 yr Josh Beckett - S - Red Sox The Red Sox probably won't attempt to sign Josh Beckett to a long-term deal before the start of next season. "We kind of want to date for a while," said assistant GM Jed Hoyer. "We just acquired him. Let's get to know each other over the next couple months. If we decide we want to do a long-term deal, we'll do that." ESPN's Peter Gammons is going around saying that Beckett's MRI was so bad that the Red Sox aren't sure they'll get 20 starts from him next season. While we find that hard to believe -- he's an injury risk, but the Red Sox had access to the MRI before completing the deal -- waiting is clearly the smart play for Boston here. With two years remaining before free agency, it's not like he'd come cheap if he signed now. Dec. 7 - 4:24 am et Source: Boston Globe
December 7, 200520 yr Thanks for the quote. This is coming from Peter Gammons though, exaggeration is not out of his realm.
December 7, 200520 yr Hey, if they don't want to go long term with him, that's fine, let him come back here in a couple of years. :mischief
