August 29, 200323 yr i know a lot of people have different tastes and all these argument blow up about whats real hip-hop or how hip-hop is crap or how much better country is or whatever. but has anybody heard the new Luther Vandross "Dance with my Father" (actually its not that new, its been on the radio since April)? i mean that song is really beautiful and emotional. he has this one song with Beyonce which is also real nice but Dance with my father just hits you, you know what im saying?
August 29, 200323 yr i might sound dumb, but who is Luther Vandross? you're kidding right? you know all these southern rappers and country artists but you dont know Luther? he's an R&B singer, mostly love songs though so that might be a turn off to the rest of the males on this board. he's a great singer.
August 29, 200323 yr i dont know if i would call him R&B now that i think about it. he can be considered mainstream though. look, you know the new American Idol? (i hate that damn show but work with me). the tall big black dude that people call a velvet teddy bear? he's compared to Luther a lot, i dont know if that helps
August 29, 200323 yr oh alright! that guy from birmingham...what the heck is that guys name....yah...ok. Is he kinda like...say Brian McKnight or someone? Alright, I gotta continue this later...im beat...I'll talk to yall later
August 29, 200323 yr i dont know if i would call him R&B now that i think about it. he can be considered mainstream though. I don't know when Luther Vandross became mainstream, unless it was just now, because Luther rarely ever had hits on the Billboard Pop charts back when he was constantly scoring #1s on the R&B charts. The only song I can think of by him that got any regular airplay on a pop or adult contemporary station before "Dance With My Father" was "The Power of Love/Love Power" like 13 years ago. I think his current album was his first album to ever go #1. While many people may have heard of him (mostly because black people talk about him a lot) there aren't a whole lot of non-black people that can instantly identify a Luther Vandross song (let alone sing the lyrics). It's a shame that a hack like Michael Bolton got more noteriety and sold more records than a real talent like Luther.
August 29, 200323 yr yeah your right, i guess i thought of him as mainstream since i hear about him a lot. can you believe when he was in his coma the only time i would hear about it would be on Hot 105 or 99 jamz which are black stations? its sad. he's a great singer. probably my favorite song of his is "Take you out tonight" from a couple of years ago, i also like "Never to much" (i think thats the name of it)
