If you know exactly what you are doing and take proper precautions, it's actually pretty safe. That being said, if you don't take proper precautions and don't know what you're doing, it's extremely dangerous.

exactly how brad put it ... it will burn off the gas first, as long as you put out the fire before it gets through the gas and onto your skin, you're fine

We did stuff like that all the time in AP Chemistry last year, which is why I only got a 2 on the AP exam. :thumbup
