January 24, 200620 yr http://www.hollywood.com/news/detail/id/3477372 HOLLYWOOD - Seminal sitcom Friends is returning to television after each of its six stars agreed multi-million dollar deals to star in four one-hour specials. In a secret meeting before Christmas, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry reportedly agreed a $5 million apiece deal with NBC bosses in Los Angeles. Scriptwriters have already started penning lines for the four double episodes, which are due to air next year. Aniston, who has filmed a string of movies since the final Friends episode, was the last to agree to the new deal. An NBC insider says, "She's the one who had been holding out. But she's now agreed to reprise Rachel (Green). "Bringing them back is a dream come true. Ratings will go through the roof." Network bosses have also hinted at a second spin-off of the hit comedy, following the disappointing performance of Matt LeBlanc's show Joey. The new program will see the three male stars--Perry, Schwimmer and LeBlanc--pilot a series called It's A Guy Thing. An NBC spokesperson confirms, "Negotiations on future projects are going on all the time." __________________
January 24, 200620 yr That's insane, if it turns out to be true. I think it's a good idea for all concerned. I mean, why the hell not? The only one still with much of a career is Aniston. My guess is she's basically doing everyone else involved a favor by agreeing to do this. And, yeah, it will get huge ratings. I stopped watching Friends a few years before it ended, but I'll tune in for this. And the spin-off sounds like a good idea to me, too. It's got a better shot than Joey, especially if these reunion shows turn out to be really good. My only question is how can they do a spin-off with JUST the three male characters? I know Monica and Chandler were married. And didn't Ross and Rachel finally unite during the finale? Maybe it will be the three stars, but completely new characters.
January 24, 200620 yr Well it has potential, I guess....None of them are that old (40 and under, I believe). They'll have to change the premise around a bit (not just the three missing women).
January 24, 200620 yr I actually liked 'Joey' - the spinoff. Was it canceled? Should be back with this March/April and will most likely be paired up with Scrubs on Tuesday nights at 9.
January 24, 200620 yr Ya Joey wasn't bad at all. Gotta love the son--he's only about 10 years younger than Joey, but whatever.
