September 15, 200322 yr It is simply an icon that the originator of the thread chose for it. The default is no icon (which is why most topics do not have any pictures next to them). You can choose one when you create a new topic. It is a way to categorize threads that most people don't use.

I noticed it this morning after Pat'sGirl (Philly fan) posted on that continuing Marlins/Phillies thread. Thanks, anyway. (The posting originator can add any emphasis he wants in the second column? No matter how uninteresting his posting may be?))
September 15, 200322 yr correct arnie.... when you go to "reply" to a post or start a new one, if you scroll down passed the place where you type in your response, you can click on one of those little pictures they are called "post icons"

I believe the post expaining the icon was very clear, and with someone of your intelligence it should be very clear now shouldn't it?
