(Greensboro, NC) The Florida Marlins announced today right handed pitchers Sandy Rosario and Felix Zabala will join the Grasshoppers as they battle the West Virginia Power in game two of a three game home series.

Acquired as a non-drafted free agent in 2004, Rosario spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons with the Dominican Summer League Marlins. He posted a combined 1.89 ERA in 81.0 innings pitched, striking out 84 batters.

Zabala, a non-drafted free agent in 2004, also spent time with the DSL Marlins in 2005, compiling 3 wins, 14 saves, 39 strikeouts and a 0.78 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched.

Making room for the roster change, left handed pitcher Aaron Thompson and right hander Chris LeRoux have been moved to the Marlins extended Spring Training.

Thompson, a first round draft pick in 2005, allowed 31 hits and a team leading 15 earned runs in 24.0 innings pitched. In five starts, he compiled a 5.63 ERA with a 0-2 record.

Also off to a rocky start, LeRoux was 0-3 in three starts, giving up seven earned runs in 10.0 innings pitched.

The Grasshoppers are home against the Power through April 30 at First Horizon Park. For more tickets or more information, please contact the Grasshoppers office at 336.268.BALL or visit us online at www.gsohoppers.com.

Thompsons move is a "paper"one while Leroux has some shoulder tightness.

What do you mean by a paper move? I don't really understand extended ST, do you mean he's still pitching in Jupiter but isn't on the roster to clear room for these guys?

A paper move is usually used for a starting pitcher pitcher right after he pitches. As he cant pitch again for 5 days (until his next start), it gives the team roster leverage to get another reliever for a few days. Thompson will be "called back" for his next start.

Extended spring players are ones that are going to either Jamestown or the GCL after the draft. They play (workout) in the afternoon , like in spring training. Players are keeping in shape in case they are needed sooner for Greensboro or Jupiter.

Wow, you learn something new every day. I'd never heard of that being done. Thanks a million.
