May 15, 200620 yr Bet On: Which summer blockbuster will make the most in its opening week-end: The Da Vinci Code or Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest? The Da Vinci Code -120 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest -120 Gotta think Da Vinci Code yet it seems most of the betting is goin on Pirates of the Carribbean....
May 15, 200620 yr If most of the betting is going with POTC, wait til the line switches and then go for Da Vinci Code. It's a tough call, though, because POTC is a sequel starring a huge name while The Da Vinci Code is an extremely popular book starring possibly an even bigger name. If you put a gun to my head I'd say POTC because more people probably saw the first one than read The Da Vinci Code (because our society doesn't read anymore hardy har har). I'll be catching the Da Vinci Code in theaters, though. I'll probably wait for DVD on POTC.
May 15, 200620 yr I would say Da Vinci Code. Almost everyone I know has read it. I'm not sensing that much excitement over POTC. I'm sure it'll do well and all. Also, take a look at what movies come out around those times. Da Vinci Code is coming out this weekend. Nothing big has come out in 2 weeks. No one cares about Poseidon Adventure which was last weekend's "big movie". Da Vinci Code has the box office all to itself this weekend. POTC, on the other hand, is coming out the weekend after Superman Returns, which is predicted to be the summer's biggest hit. People who didn't get a chance to see Superman opening weekend will probably choose to see it the next weekend. I'm tempted to make a bet myself, except that I've never made a winning bet in my life...so you probably shouldn't listen to me
May 15, 200620 yr Please don't waste your money on this. Sports is one thing... And btw, POTC is definitely getting more money. Da Vinci code is nice and all, but it's relatively unknown to many Americans. POTC is the sequel to a hugely popular movie starring two hunks and a sexy woman. And regarding next Friday (after Da Vinci Code), you have X3....so there is no way it'll make any money after this week. POTC will be the biggest new movie for a few weeks at least when it comes out.
May 15, 200620 yr Da Vinci Code is "controversial." That alone means people are going to see it. The only people who haven't heard of this book at some point, or the movie, are living in deep dark holes and won't see movies anyways. I'm going to say Da Vinci Code has the bigger opening just because there will be Christian picketers who don't get it's fiction and almost EVERY time this kind of thing happens people see it. Pirates of the Caribbean has too much competition.
May 15, 200620 yr Whoops, biggest opening. Definitely Da Vinci then. Whoever mentioned Superman coming out just before POTC brings a valid point. I change my mind--Solely for opening week purposes, I say Da Vinci Code gets more $$$$$
May 15, 200620 yr when the bet first came out....the lean was towards Da Vinci.....now it's evening out....I really can't see POTC doing better though.

May 15, 200620 yr I agree. Don't waste your money. Especially on a -120 line. Can someone explain why regular sports games seem to be set on -110 lines, but these goofy ass bets come out to -120?
May 16, 200620 yr No love for the X-3 opening? To get off topic just for a moment...The new 'Premiere' issue (or at least fairly new) has a nice article on Brett Ratner's difficulty (and success) filling Singer's shoes. I'm pumped about the movie after reading it, more so than before.
May 22, 200620 yr 77 million domestic. 224 million worldwide. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060522/ap_en_...HNlYwN5bmNhdA--

May 22, 200620 yr Ebert and that Roeper guy liked X3. They're also in the 18% or whatever that liked the Da Vinci Code. So, yeah...
