Dinner on the Diamond. (May 28th)

Featured Replies

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins Community Foundation, in collaboration with the Florida Marlins Wives, will host the 10th Annual Publix Dinner on the Diamond presented by 560 WQAM SportsRadio and FedEx. The event, which will take place on Sunday, May 28, after the 1:05 game with the New York Mets at Dolphin Stadium, requires a separate ticket.

Dinner on the Diamond allows fans the unique opportunity to experience a picnic on the outfield grass of the ballpark, while engaging with Marlins players, coaches, broadcasters, Billy the Marlin, The Mermaids, Marlins executives, and staff in a casual setting. Fans can enjoy dinner, drinks, interactive games for the children, and entertainment provided by SteelAway band and 560 WQAM SportsRadio. There will also be a silent auction and every guest will receive a souvenir gift.

The event is SOLD OUT. However, fans can still get special access to tickets in two different ways: By bidding online through the team's official auction link at www.floridamarlins.com, or by participating in WQAM's 560 AM on-air promotion starting May, 18.

Through the Florida Marlins Community Foundation, proceeds from Dinner on the Diamond will support Daily Bread Food Bank's mission to provide over 18 million pounds of food each year to 1,000 charitable organizations that feed hungry people in the South Florida region. The Camillus House will also receive a portion of the proceeds and will be on hand to collect blankets for distribution to the homeless.

"This year marks the 10th anniversary of a wonderful partnership with the Daily Bread Food Bank and Camillus House," said Nancy Olson, Executive Director of the Florida Marlins Community Foundation. "Publix Dinner on the Diamond is a great way to help the community in a very special setting. Without the support of Publix, FedEx, 560 WQAM SportsRadio, and Metro PCS, this event would not benefit so many needy people in South Florida."

The event will also accommodate a blanket drive benefiting Camillus House. Fans are encouraged to donate new and used blankets at the Housewall Garage System Community Corner in section 149. Representatives from Camillus House will also receive fan donations at the Dinner on the Diamond event.

Last year Dinner on the Diamond successfully raised $48,000, and 59 blankets were donated to the Camillus House. Overall, the Dinner on the Diamond event has raised $205,444.

I always wanted to go to one of these. Has anyone here been to one? Is it worth going?

I went to the "Ice and Dice" with the Florida Panthers which is pretty similar to Dinner on the Diamond for the Marlins, it was a good time and you got to meet all the players and chat with them for as long as you wanted and whatnot. They weren't allowed to sign any autographs though which I felt wasn't right after spending $450 for myself and two friends just to get in.
