Travis Bowyer

I don't think he has even seen the field yet in minor league action. Once he does return, he'll be up when he has earned a shot, perhaps this year perhaps not. Our management hasn't shown any hesitation in giving guys some ML time who have earned it.

It's his shoulder and he first complained about it in the AFL when trying to throw his slider.

Whatever it is specifically (labrum, tendonitis, etc.) I have no idea . But whatever it is the Marlins have opted to shut him down completely.

No apologies required.

I've said before I really believe one the big setbacks the Marlins bullpen endured this spring was the loss of Bowyer, who was 100% major league ready and then Martinez going on the DL. Together they set off a series of events that led to the meltdown in the pen we fans watched helplessly.

If those two had been healthy to date I have no doubt we'd be five or six games better in the win column. (Others may of course disagree.)

I'm not 100 percent convinced he was going to be completely effective. The guy has talent, but that's not a guarantee he was gonna have the command he need at the ML level.

Look at his Gamelog (ESPN) for the month of September 2005 when he was called up. Except for his last appearance where he got racked, he was virtually unhittable. Off the top of my head I believe that in his first seven (of eight) appearances he gave up one run and had an ERA around 1.50.

It is fate sometimes that determines a team's success...If Bowyer had been able to start the season in a Marlin's uniform. Carlos Martinez would have started the season in double A. We would never known his brilliant potential!
