Hotcorner
What a night. A perfect, cool September baseball night. It's all sort of a blur. I think there was a game at some point. A home run, a diving catch, a couple of stolen bases maybe, some big strikeouts I think. Then there were fireworks, a giant pile of laughing, joyful players, a stadium full of screaming friends, and one massive party. When Juan Pierre and Jeff Conine both went full-speed toward a fly ball early in the game, my first thought was "oh man, please don't collide..." Of course not. The two crossed one another, sliding and diving like some bizarre choreographed dance move. Pierre of course wound up making the spectacular catch, got a hug from Mr. Marlin, and suddenly you just knew it was going to happen tonight. In the end, they won the way they always do. As a team, getting contributions from everyone. The hugs and interviews and champagne and high-fives and dancing and waves to the fans and laughter and tears from tonight will remain etched in my memory. Magical, magical team. Different guys every night. Players having fantastic seasons, and it's not over yet. Glad to have been here with all of you for this wild ride. Next stop, the playoffs.
