Gaby Sanchez

Featured Replies

I dont think he's caught yet. I sa him play in the GCL on Tuesday and he played first base. Last nites boxscore has him at first base as well.

Further update: I just noticed gaby on the Hammerhead roster so he must have been activated for tonites game at Tampa.

sweet.

damn, that's what they had him listed as in the overall stat sheet. probably wouldn't be wise to thrust him right into catching duties anyhow.

Damn that means Hayes is gonna be in Greensboro the rest of the year.

I have my doubts that Gaby is going to see much time at catcher except maybe a start a week.

if he has a strong showing in the FSL he's definitely our most promising bat in the minors (not counting recent draftees). A lot of college hitters dominate low A ball and sink in high A ball.

I kinda expect Gaby to play in the Arizona Fall League after the season to get some needed AB'S

Sanchez's wrist heals, and he gets promoted

By Jeff Carlton

Staff Writer

When Gaby Sanchez went to the disabled list June 7, Greensboro Grasshoppers manager Brandon Hyde thought he might have seen the last of the gifted hitter in a Hoppers uniform.

Sure enough, when Sanchez came off the DL on Thursday, his left wrist sufficiently healed, the Florida Marlins transferred him from Greensboro to high Class A Jupiter.

Barring unusual circumstance, he won't be back.

"He's advanced for his age," Hyde said of Sanchez, 22, a fourth-round draft pick in 2005. "He's a cage rat. He knows his swing inside and out. He knows the strike zone."

Hyde figures Sanchez will adjust pretty easily to pitching in the Florida State League. The first baseman from Miami got off to a scorching start in his first full minor-league season and was among the league leaders in several categories when he got hurt. In 55 games, he batted .317 with 14 home runs, 43 runs, 40 RBIs and a .603 slugging percentage.

Sanchez suffered a broken wrist sliding into first base June 5 against Hickory. With him, the Hoppers were 32-24. Without him, they were 18-27 entering Thursday night's game against Rome.

"It's a change," Hyde said. "The guys around him get pitched to differently, and you have to step up and make adjustments."

The Hoppers' injured list now is down to four players. That includes outfielder Jeff Van Houten, who was scheduled to have his injured left wrist examined in Florida late this week.

Outfielder Brad Correll, who has played for three other organizations, most recently Lynchburg in the Carolina League, was added to the Hoppers' roster, pending a physical. Left-handed reliever Andy Jackson has been reassigned to the Gulf Coast League.

Jupes is in a hitter's league right?

Greensboro is a hitter's league then?

it kinda seems that way, but only because a lot of the guys putting up crazy numbers are college hitters picking on high school pitching. really, im not sure though.

the article forgot to mention gaby's ridiculous BB/K ratio...I think he had twice as many walks as strikeouts.

Reached base and drove one in tonight on an error against Tampa.

he also went 0/4 and struck out twice -
