I was in Batavia today for the Jammers/MuckDogs game, and it wasn't pretty. Batavia took the game 8-0, as Jamestown was brought down by three errors and held to just three hits by Alexander Concepcion. My notes from the game:

 

-Tanner Rogers (8th round, 2003) led off and played center, despite the fact that he's also listed on the roster as a catcher. He was 2-4 with two singles, including the one that broke up Concepcion's perfect game in the 7th. Rogers looks to have the best approach of anyone on the Jammers at the plate.

 

-Justin Webb (23rd round, 2005) hit second and played second base. He was 0-4 with a K, a deep flyout that was feet away from a homer and two errors, both on the same play. With the bases loaded in the 4th, a ground ball bounced off the heel of his glove and into center field. He bobbled the ball several times in center, allowing another run to score. Not a good night for him.

 

-Jacob Blackwood (16th round, 2005) hit third and played third base. He was 0-4 with a K and he grounded into the game-ending double play.

 

-Hunter Mense (17th round, 2006) hit cleanup and played left field. He was kept quite busy, making four put-outs in the field. At the plate, he was 1-3 with a double, which should've garnered him an RBI, but was ruled a ground-rule double, even thought it looked like the left fielder kicked the ball under the fence. Rogers, who was ahead of Mense on the bases, thus had to go back to second instead of scoring. Mense took a bad route to a ball in the 6th that allowed a MuckDog to get a double.

 

-Spike McDougall (39th round, 2006) batted fifth and played right field. He was 0-3 with a strikeout.

 

-Nate Messner (18th round, 2005) batted sixth and played first base. Messner was 1-3 with a double. He got the "Ouch!" play of the game by running into a railing while going for a foul ball that ended up in the stands. He hit his ribs against the railing pretty hard. He also made a baserunning blunder, letting a ball hit to short hit him on his way to third base, forcing himself out.

 

-Blake Ochoa (Free Agent) was the catcher and hit seventh. Ochoa was 0-3. He had a busy day behind the plate, blocking many pitches in the dirt. He did make one mistake- in the 2nd inning with a runner on third, McDougall made a diving catch in right, then made an on-the-money throw to the plate. However, Ochoa couldn't hold onto the ball during the collision and the runner was safe. The trainer came out and looked at Ochoa's mouth/jaw after the play, but he finished the game.

 

-Andrew Saylor (13th round, 2006) DH'd and was 0-2. He was pinch-hit for in the 8th by Guillermo Martinez, who flew out.

 

-Jose Munoz (Free Agent) played shortstop and was 0-3. He seemed to have a slow bat, and also had trouble on D. He committed an error in the fourth, and almost committed another one late in the game, bobbling a ball that the 2B picked up and touched 2nd to force a runner out.

 

-Graham Taylor (10th round, 2006) started the game and lasted just four innings. He gave up five hits, seven runs (only two earned) with two walks and four K's. He threw one wild pitch. He worked from behind in the count a lot, and worked slow with runners on. He had a relatively textbook, but compact delivery. He threw a lot of pitches in the 4th inning, the inning where Batavia got five runs.

 

-Parrish Castor (31st round, 2004) relieved Taylor in the fifth. He threw three innings and allowed just one hit, one run (earned) and walked two without striking out any. The lanky Castor pitched from the stretch at all times, and balked once.

 

-Rodolfo Encarnacion (Free Agent) finished the game. He threw one scoreless inning. Encarnacion explodes out of his windup as he delivers the ball.

 

 

Those are my notes from this game. They play Batavia on Tuesday (a doubleheader) and I'll try to get to at least one of them.
