September 25, 200619 yr Because he's a former top draft pick coming off an incredible minor league season and a record debut? He was the natural choice for both rookie of the year and one of few Marlins most people even knew about. What incredible minor league season???

Hermida's 2005 season was pretty damn impressive .293/.457/.518 18hr 23sb 111bb to 89k He had a very good season. There's a huge difference between very good and incredible. Would you say he had an incredible season in '05?
September 25, 200619 yr When you're 21, somewhat young for AA, and being pitched around like you're Barry Bonds, that's somewhat incredible

If I hear any more bulls*** about how he should be more aggressive, I am going to be supremely pissed. Patience is a rare gift in a young player, and the Marlins have precious few patient hitters.

He drew an incredible number of walks but all-in-all he had a very good year, not an incredible year. His OPS was about .970 which is very good but not incredible. If Rferry said Hermida drew an incredible number of walks I would agree with him but I don't agree that he had an incredible year. I don't consider an OPS in the .970s to be incredible.
September 25, 200619 yr That .975 OPS was tops among players in the Southern League. And matched by only two players in AA (Justin Huber and some 28yo 1B in the EL). Brian Dubach led the IL with a .979. A couple PCL and advanced A guys topped the 1.000 mark. I'd say that's an incredible feat. Any time you can get on base in nearly half your plate appearances (.500 OBP) and earn a base every other at bat (.500 SLG) is an incredible feat. Certainly better than 'very good'.

You are viewing it in a vaccuum. If one considers the average OPS in the Southern League, he was as valuable in context as Pujols/Howard/Beltran/Cabrera are in an NL context. He is even farther ahead when the wieghted OPS method (multiply OBP x 1.8) is used.
