Weird Hardrive Question

Featured Replies

Ok, yesterday my hard drive was at 4.26 gigs of free space. I came home today and there was only a gig of free space. Now, I haven't downloaded or installed anything. I'm scanning my computer right now, but does anyone have any idea of what's going on?

Hmm, weren't you asking about an external hard drive a few days back? Have you been installing new stuff or messing around with your hd in the last few days?

Nope. Haven't done anything of the kind. I do need a second hard drive, but this is an unrelated issue. The only thing I've done is rip a couple of mp3s and update Norton Sunday night.

OK, my Ad-Aware program found a folder C:\uploads with tons of sh*t in it, but I can't find it anywhere on my harddrive, even with show hidden files and folders checke.d

EDIT: Ok, I found and got rid of that folder. It didn't give any major changes.

Got it cleared upnow. Still not sure what was going on.

Did you recognize the files?

If not, it sounds like someone has installed an invisible ftp service on your system. Look for services like FireDaemon or serv-u ftp. Is your pc always on? If so, it's time to start looking at getting yourself a hardware firewall. Do some packet inspection and block all services you do not expressly allow.

I like the SonicWall product line. Effective, but inexpensive.

Read about it here: http://www.sonicguard.com/TZ150.asp?source...=sonicwalltz150

Buy it from Dell for $218 here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...p;c=us&l=en

I did some research and that folder was a result of Limewire. I have since removed that from my computer and have no intent of installing it again.
