November 26, 200619 yr Not only that, but role players can make a BIG difference. The whole idea is to not have a HOLE, we aren't trying to get the best, we are trying to get who we are better off with. We should be concerned with getting a player that can make a big difference, not someone who is slightly better. We'd all like to get better, but at what cost? These players don't come free. That player will need a contract. He may need to be acquired by trade (thus giving up valuable commodities - some more valuable than others) or a fee. He'll need playing time, coaching and time to adapt and develop. After all that you may find that the costs (to the team's organizational depth, Loria's pocket book, your and my enjoyment, other players' development, etc.) outweigh the marginal improvement the player may provide.
