Mets re-signed RHP Guillermo Mota to a two-year, $5 million contract.

And they say cheaters never win. Giving a guaranteed two-year deal to a pitcher whose only really good run in the last two years came before he was caught taking PEDs seems like a substantial risk. Still, the Mets can afford it. Mota will rejoin the pen at the end of May after serving his 50-game suspension at the beginning of 2007.

What a JOKE.

Great signing. He made a boo boo by using roids but w/e. 2.5 million is pocket change and say he didnt use steroids and get banned for 50 games, he would have got 4-5m a year in this market.

except that he did use steroids, which may or may not have helped his numbers alot

I can see the steroid policy is really working.

Take the roids, get paid.

They also designed the contract to lessen the loss of money during the suspension a bit.

While Guillermo Mota received a $5 million contract from the Mets, he's set to lose a little more than $500,000 of it while serving his 50-game suspension to begin next season.

The contract is set up so that Mota will make $1.8 million next year and $3.2 million in 2008. Since he can't get paid during the suspension, he'll lose close to one-third of his 2007 salary.

What the f***?

He gets suspended, let's make him learn his lesson...so LETS BACKLOAD THE DEAL?!??!!? Are you f***ing kidding me?!?!?!?!?!

Selig better not approve that deal. He's tried to black-ball steroid users in the past (like Palmeiro being forced out).
