Posted October 12, 200321 yr If we are to come back today, there will be two key things to look for. One, the Cubs cannot score any runs in the first inning. If Beckett can get through the first inning, and settle in, we have a shot. Second, keep Lofton off base. This guy is batting like .500 and you know he is due for a bad game. Part of the reason some of these Cubs hitters are hitting so well is not because they are just great hitters, but because the Marlins pitchers have not been effective at all. I say just pitch, throw strikes and make these guys hit and beat you that way. We have an excellent defense and the dimensions at JRS are not going to allow too many homeruns. Keys to win: Keep Lofton off base, much like we did for hitters in front of Bonds; and get through the first inning with a donut on the scoreboard. If these things happen, I see a Marlins win today. It aint over yet. You better believe we are going to come out fighting.
October 12, 200321 yr Author Damn straight. Our offense hasnt been good really, scoring 9, 3, 4, 3 runs in each contest. Goes to show you we need our pitching. We almost won with a quality start from Redman against Wood. But the Marlins have not gotten offensive production yet - and I dont want to say that it is all Cubs pitching. They have been very hittable. You gotta think we are due - even in this gloomy moment. On the brink of elimination, can we storm back? I believe...
October 12, 200321 yr So far, so good today Fish fans It can be done. My Sox faced three straight elimination games this year and moved on (albeit by the slimmest of margins). Best of luck.
October 13, 200321 yr Author Looks like we did exactly what was needed. Now for Game 6 - we win this, the series will be ours.
