October 14, 200322 yr Actually, I was reading that the playoffs have NOT been a big boon to many local businesses. Sure, the souvenir hawkers and Wrigleyville bars are doing fine, but many restaurants have experienced a big downturn in their business. Folks aren't going to go out to eat because they want to watch the Cubs on TV, and don't want to be any place where the game's not featured (dining out? out. shopping? out) The economic advantages to the city due to the Cubs' success are thus far way overrated. That could change with a World Series berth.
