HOW ABOUT THAT BASEBALL STADIUM?

See, we CAN support baseball. Build one at all costs.

If it's privately financed, go for it.

Looks like Loria's only hope for a stadium that would make everyone happy is getting it done privately. Now that is a huge pricetag to foot the bill for ($350 million minimum) but it is possible. It will involve something many in Miami have never heard of, private investors! That's right, you form a ballpark company who gathers a group of investors that invest in it and therefore get part ownership in the new ballpark. You have the Marlins as principal owner by putting in the largest portion of the money.

Let's play out some scenarios here shall we! Joe Robbie did it for the Dolphins, so maybe we can do this.

Start Cost $350 million

Ballpark Naming Rights (20 years) $50 million or $2.5 million per year

That leaves $300 million, ok that can be reduced by at least $100 million by leasing the proposed 42 skyboxes for $10 million dollars/10 year terms.

We now have $200 million left without any Marlins or private investor money involved.

Next comes the private investors. If you can get 30 investors to invest an average of $5 million each, that leaves $50 million dollars left for the Marlins to take care of.

It is doable and if Loria takes it peice by peice instead of trying to force it to be done publicly, he might reap more benefits and be able to lower total costs and time since you don't have the red tape that is government.

So here is a recap...

20 year Naming rights = $50 million

At least 10 out of 42 Preconstruction Skybox leases = $100 million

30 Private Investors = $150 million

Loria and Marlins = $50 million

Any questions about Bank of America Ballpark?

Remember, if he can lease all 42 skyboxes before construction costs start at the rate of $10 million/10 years, he would have $420 million without having to get anyone more involved!

Sounds good, Cape. I'm interested in seeing of Loria is willing to do all that though.

Oh, and it must at all cost, have a retractable roof!!! Marlins baseball suffers so much when it rains and they need to stick it in a place where everyone is happy. It can't be in downtown because the people in Broward and Palm Beach would ***** too much and you can't have it too far north because people from South Dade would ***** too much!

I hope Loria has something cooking for all of this..... :thumbup

That name works. We could give it a spazzy nickname, Like The Fish Tank at Bank of America Ballpark.

i got $5 on it... :lol

actually a privately funded ballpark would be great because after the original investment there arent any HUGE expenses. As long as Loria has some very detailed book keepers to make sure the organization stays on its budget this could be amazing...

The legal costs alone from Public financing efforts will be worth it.

There are more than 42 corporations/individuals who sponsor the Marlins and would be willing to do it since they would get the skyboxes for a rate cheaper than at PPS for the games and get more advertising on the field since you don't have restrictions from stadium management.

Loria and Co. are creative and they could pull this off.

As long as he doesn't call it "Loria Field" like Ted Turner did in Atlanta! :thumbdown

How about Bank of America Stadium aka the B.O.A.T.

Anyone willing to bet that the Miccosukee are willing to donate a little to the cause? :mischief2
