At least the Jets & Giants remain good, clean fun

The Jets and Giants may be getting some new X-rated neighbors. East Rutherford, N,J., introduced an ordinance that would create an adult entertainment zone for strip clubs, massage parlors, porn stores and tattoo shops across from the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

Mayor James Cassella told The Record of Bergen County that the ordinance is needed to prevent adult businesses from opening near schools and homes. The town's planning board must sign off on the ordinance before submitting it to the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. - AP

It would be like tailgating at Solid Gold before a game.

Sports are supposed to be for kids. That is BS.

How many kids go to NFL games?

The reason they are doing this is to keep strip clubs away from schools and houses. I dont think its a bad idea. No one lives right next to the meadowlands, so this isnt a bad idea.

Enough that you should keep away strip club flyers and the sleeze that will come from this away from them. The stadium will turn into what a Las Vegas street at 3AM is.

Well it wont be at the stadium, it will be across the street. They are also building a huge shopping mall at the meadowlands called Xanadu, which will have indoor skiing among other things. Its not like the Jets are telling the county to build a porn theme park across the street, its the actual county that does so.

In reality it wont be such a bad thing. You can drive down biscayne blvd and pass 5 strip clubs and adult video stores mixed right in with restaurants and stores. As long as you dont go inside you dont see anything. If you have ever been to solid gold on biscayne and 167, its right next two a mini mall and a bunch of nice stores. This ordinance would get all that stuff away from the general public and put it next to the meadowlands where people dont live.

I realize it is not going to be inside, it is going to be all the stealth marketing they do inside the stadium that I don't like. I just hate the idea of marketing any sport away from who it should be targeting: The 12-19 year old crowd.

This further pushes away kids from mainstream sports and if I were a parent I wouldn't want to take my kid to an environment like that. It is why sports like skateboarding and all the X games are becoming more and more popular.

12-19 is not the NFL's target audience. 25-55 is what they are looking for, people who can actually buy tickets to the games. I dont think kids are really being pushed away. The NFL just had its greatest season in terms of attendance. In fact more people are going to games now than they were 10-20 years ago. The NFL continues to grow.

With that said, I am sure the stadium will try and stop the adult complex from advertising during games. They will probably do radio and newspaper adds like strip clubs in miami currently do. If it bothers a parent so much, they should just drive in a different enterance to the stadium. I think that driving to a stadium 8 times a year and letting the kids see a giant XXX sign is WAY better than seeing xxx signs all over a city 365 days a year. Thats just my opinion.
