October 9, 200719 yr Sens. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) will hold a joint campaign event in Des Moines, Iowa, this Friday to promote their decentralization plan for Iraq. The two presidential hopefuls are polling in the single digits nationally and need a good showing in the country?s first caucus to keep their hopes for the nomination alive. The campaigns called the joint event ?unprecedented.? The two senators are advocating a plan that would decentralize the Iraqi government and put in place a federal system. The Senate passed a non-binding resolution supporting such a plan 75-23 last month. Both senators were lead sponsors, and Iowa's two senators also backed the plan. ?Joe and I might be running for the nomination of two different parties, but we agree on one thing: the American people want progress in Iraq and this represents a viable way forward to stability and success,? said Brownback. ?Partisan politics must not come in the way of finding a solution to the war in Iraq,? said Biden. ?The overwhelming majority of Americans want us to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible without leaving chaos behind.? http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/biden-and...2007-10-08.html This concept has failed on other occasions, but I wonder if it would be the rational thing now. The Balkans and other examples certainly exist to illustrate the failure of such policies, but we really might have no choice.
October 9, 200719 yr I'm glad that it's at least something that made it through Congress. I'm moving towards this being a better idea, except that some of the groups will certainly be unhappy, because not all of the regions in the country have the oil.
October 10, 200719 yr they will take all of the oil revenue and split it 3 ways. But not sure how good this will work as there will be troubles still.
