December 3, 200718 yr 12/03/2007 2:20 PM ET White Sox trade for outfielder Quentin Corner prospect talented, but has battled with injuries By Scott Merkin / MLB.com NASHVILLE -- The White Sox have added another talented young corner outfielder to their mix, acquiring Carlos Quentin from Arizona in a deal announced Monday afternoon. In return, the White Sox sent first baseman Chris Carter, considered one of the organization's top prospects with the bat, back to the Diamondbacks. In order to make room for Quentin on the White Sox 40-man roster, the team designated left-hander Heath Phillips for assignment. Quentin, 25, battled injuries for much of the 2007 season, beginning with a left shoulder issue suffered during Spring Training. The right-handed-hitting outfielder had that particular injury surgically repaired in October. Quentin also battled through hamstring problems in August, leading to Justin Upton eventually taking over the starting right field spot. But the potential is there for Arizona's top pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft. Quentin hit .301 with 21 home runs and 89 RBIs for Triple-A Tucson in 2005 and has an impressive career Minor League on-base percentage of .427 over 1,337 at-bats. Winter Meetings With Jermaine Dye firmly entrenched in right field, Quentin figures to battle for the starting left field slot. Quentin has never played in center at the Major League level. Carter, 20, hit .291 for Class A Kannapolis last season with 25 home runs and 93 RBIs. Scott Merkin is a reporter for MLB.com.
