New Stadium

Featured Replies

So I haven't posted here in a while.....but still follow the team and have heard a lot about the new stadium. I'm pretty excited about what looks like almost a sure thing at this point......looks like the Marlins' future in Miami is finally secured. I will be able to go to a lot more games with the location of the new stadium considering I live in coral gables only 10 minutes from the orange bowl but over an hour from Dolphin Stadium at rush hour. Even though it's less than 40,000 seats, it still looks to have a nice cutting-edge design and the retractable roof will be great with the off-and-on weather around South Fla. in the summer. If we can draw more fans which we almost certainly will (especially if they get more big-name players), I think there will be a good shot at filling up most of the stadium on most nights. This looks to be the first step in transforming the Marlins from a team which is usually decent but has no big names or fan support into more of a normal MLB team, which is something to look forward to. Having them on the Sofla sports scene every year, not just when they are winning the world series, will be nice. What's most exciting though is that Loria finally said he will establish a respectable MLB payroll, and we will actually be able to keep some of the big-name players that we develop in future years. Glad to see we should only have 3 more years to wait as well since they have to get it finished by 2011.

The question is, how much of a chance do you think Norman Braman has at actually derailing the plan? A lawyer told me that he his chances are very low, less than 5%, which is good. I have actually met Braman and he's a pretty nice guy, I don't see why he's trying to do this, but anyways let's hope he doesn't do anything. I think that the overwhelming chance is at this point based on what has been said, that the Marlins will have the stadium built in time for 2011. What do you all think are the chances at that happening? Also what are your general thoughts on what the new stadium is going to be like? Tonight on FSN they were saying the designer who did the Nationals' stadium is also doing ours, and that looked pretty nice, so hopefully it will be similar to that. Only difference is how much of the money for it is actually coming from the Marlins......such a significant portion compared with other cities.....it's a miracle that they are going to build it after all these years!

Go Fish....

Wreck that Orange Bowl! Let's get this new stadium underway!

0% chance the Braman lawsuit derails the plan. 100% positive the stadium will open in 2011. It might not be 100% complete by opening day, but it will be more than functional with a few minor things still needing to be completed. If this stadium deal falls through ill pay your bar tab @ wherever. There is no chance the deal gets canceled.
