Smoltz has season ending shoulder surgery

Featured Replies

i'm sure most of you saw monday when the marlins came back with 2 runs off john smoltz in the ninth for his first blown save against the marlins. many braves fans saw that he was in pain the entire inning and the shoulder was still hurting him, despite the new arm angle and everything. looks like you saw the last of smoltz this year pitching and possibly the end of his career, since he's getting shoulder surgery today.

Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz says he will have season-ending shoulder surgery, but hopes to return in 2009. The Braves called a news conference before Thursday's game against the Florida Marlins to discuss Smoltz's ailing shoulder. Smoltz and general manager Frank Wren declined comment until the briefing, but the pitcher said on his radio show that he will miss the rest of the season.

We nearly ended Tom Glavine's career on a sour note, now we could have possibly ended John Smoltz's career on a sour note. :notworthy Too bad we still lost the game :confused

Don't be a jerk; not only did the marlins have nothing to do with this but also its the end of a hall of fame career that we're talking about. He's a Brave, but he's still one of the ten most distinguished pitchers of his generation. Hope he can find a way to come back.

Exactly. The key part of the sentence is "He's a Brave". Therefore, I am destined to hate him.

Braves' Smoltz has surgery on injured right shoulder

Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz is out of surgery in Birmingham.

There was no immediate word on whether doctors were able to fix his ailing right shoulder during the operation Tuesday afternoon.

But an aide to the surgeons said they have spoken with the Braves, and the team will make any announcement about the condition of the 41-year-old pitcher.

Dr. James Andrews and an associate operated on Smoltz's right shoulder, which has been hurting for more than a year. Smoltz is out for the rest of this season but he could come back depending on the outcome of the operation.

To add insult to the injury...

Glavine had to leave tonight's game after 3 innings due to an elbow strain.

i personally think this will be the end of the line for both smoltz and glavine. what a shame for their careers to end on such sour notes.

and i think the braves are just about done for this year. underachieving losers.

It's not too late to hop over to our side.

Come on, you know you want to. :mischief
