Hey everyone. I was recently searching YouTube for people's reactions to the US election 2008 results. I stumbled across one vid in particular. It showed how McCain supporters in rural Ohio were trying to deal with Obama's victory.

At around 1:24, the news reporter mentions "valuing God and country."

 

So here's my question:

 

What the heck do people mean by "God and country"?

 

I've heard that term thrown around before, but I never bothered to research it in-depth.

 

What is "God and country"? How is "God" related to "country"? And how is "God and country" associated with conservative Republicans and the whole red states-blue states divide?

 

Can anyone elucidate this?
