November 8, 200322 yr Pudge's situation The Marlins have three Type-A free agents this winter, according to the Elias Sports Bureau's annual ranking, but only two of them might bring draft-pick compensation should they sign elsewhere. That's because the Marlins, upon signing Rodriguez to a one-year deal in January, agreed not to offer him arbitration by the Dec. 7 deadline. That means another team can sign him after that date without losing its first-round pick. If Rodriguez signs elsewhere before Dec. 7, the Marlins would still be in line to receive two compensatory picks. Because of the no-arbitration agreement, they also must re-sign Rodriguez by that date or be prohibited from signing him back until next May 1, a distinct disadvantage in a process that could evolve slowly. Closer Ugueth Urbina and Castillo are the Marlins' other Type-A free agents http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...-sports-marlins
November 8, 200322 yr So the Marlins have a month to sign him.I read in the Post that the Padres were interested.I live in San Diego. We just finished(we tax payers help pay for this)the new stadium. It would be great to land a name free agent like Pudge. But I have no faith in Padre management to spend a dime. They suck .It would be nice for me if Pudge played here.Do not worry ,Marlin fans .Will not happen. If it did I would buy season tickets in a minute.
