The British Open

Featured Replies

We have Tom Watson leading The British Open after 54 holes. The final round is played tomorrow. Watson is 59 years old, 2 months from being 60! He's a great from the past. From the Nicklaus era, for many years he was Jack Nicklaus' strongest rival, it's culmination being the famed "Duel In the Sun" in 1977..a 4 day virtual match play where the 2 of them distanced themselves from the field, in the British Open, at the same golf course(Turnberry) that this year's event is being played on.

.

IMO, if Watson can win this major tournament, it will go down as one of the top ten greatest achievements in sports. Perhaps the greatest. Even for most of you who don't like golf, if you're awake tomorrow morning...give it a look, especially around 11-12, to see how Watson is doing. The TV coverage is on from 6AM to 2PM. Watson will play from 9:20AM to 1:30PM EST or so.

It is incredible how a 59 year old has a fantastic chance of winning a Major. I still like Goosen for the win tomorrow, he is currently 2 shots behind.

I went to Turnberry on Thursday and had an enjoyable day, spending the majority of my time sitting at both the 1st and 16th greens and then I also followed Camilo Villegas round for a good chunk of his round.

Unfortunately I wont be able to go down tomorrow as I am working, but I will be able to catch the last 2 or 3 hours on the tv.

I am a member at Turnberry but because of The Open, the Ailsa course has been shut for members for basically the full year, so I cant wait to play on it next Saturday. Hopefully some of the stands are still up, cos it would be pretty sweet playing with a competition feel to it.

Congrats to Cink for winning his 1st Major.

I am still wondering why Watson chose to putt with his 3rd on 18, surely a chip shot would of been better? It was obvious in the playoff that his energy tank was empty, which is quite understandable after 4 adrenaline filled days as a 59 year old.

Until about halfway through today's round I hadnt even noticed Cink near the lead, but well done to him for coming through in the end.

Cabrera, Glover, Cink as the first 3 Major champs this year, who would have thought it?!
