August 8, 200916 yr Relative baseball-newbie here still learning the game. Can anyone tell me why, in the top of the ninth when Baker hit his double, why wasn't Bonifacio put on to pinch run, as Boni would be far more likely to score from second than Baker, Paulino was available to catch the bottom of the inning, and one extra run would have been invaluable. Of course it didn't matter as Nunez pitched out the ninth, but it could have done as we didn't score anything despite having the bases loaded. Just wondering Fredi didn't do it; or is it just a stupid idea?
August 8, 200916 yr Because we'd burning one of the only two catchers carry, not to mention that if the game would've been tied in the bottom of the ninth we would've had 2 less players to pinch hit...oh, and Hermida and Helms were already on the field...

August 8, 200916 yr Very good point to me. I agree 100%. When you're facing the Phillies, let alone in their ballpark, no lead is safe. An extra run would've meant a little bit of cushion. I hope we win one of the two remaining
August 8, 200916 yr It would have burned the complete bench. Wouldn't be too smart. And I'm not sure who the emergency catcher would be. Since Gaby was sent down. If anything was to go down, we would have seen a pitcher out there on D and probably have helms or someone behind the plate...lol I'm sure Cody would be up to play catcher. lol
